5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique
This technique uses your senses to bring you back to the present moment and calm your anxiety.
5 things you can see: Look around and name 5 things in your environment (e.g., the treadmill, a piece of equipment, the wall, etc.).
4 things you can touch: Focus on textures, like the floor beneath your feet, the weight bar, or the feeling of your clothes.
3 things you can hear: Pay attention to the sounds in the gym – maybe music, people talking, or the hum of machines.
2 things you can smell: Notice the smells around you.
1 thing you can taste: Focus on the taste in your mouth (maybe a sip of water or the taste of your gum).
